Thanks for checking out TFC’s Youth Ministry!
Our ministry consists of JV (7th-8th grade) and Varsity (9th – 12th grade) groups, which meet separately and together for all sorts of events and outreach opportunities. Check the calendar in the sidebar on the right for upcoming events!
You can find the necessary event permission slips and registration forms under the “Forms” link above. Also, our Weekly Information Piece (WIP), which is given out each Sunday with a message outline and announcements, is available through the above link. The “WIP” link will provide you with the this week’s WIP, and the most recent weeks’ editions. Finally, parents can find newsletters and general information under the “Parents” link.
Currently, the mission of our ministry is to invest in the next generation (specifically, students in grades 7-12) by partnering with parents and volunteer leaders through various avenues:
Sunday Morning Youth: On Sunday mornings, we have table games and hang out time, followed by youth-led worship and a separate teaching time for JV and Varsity students. All students meet together for teaching once a month. 11 – 12:10 in the Youth Room
Connection Groups: On Wednesday nights, we meet together for table games and group activities before breaking up into gender/age specific connection groups for a time of in-depth discussion about Scripture and spiritual disciplines for use in daily life. 6:15 – 7:45 in the Youth Room
Service: We have several opportunities to serve as the body of Christ in multiple capacities throughout the year:
Center of Hope – We head over to Center of Hope in central Dallas on the second Sunday of each month to help serve food and clean the facility. Center of Hope is a ministry of Union Gospel Mission, and provides housing for single women and their children.
Work Weekends – We currently have one JV and one Varsity work weekend opportunity per school year. Work weekends take place at one of the Pine Cove campgrounds near Tyler, TX. Our group serves as the work crew in the kitchen for other groups using the campground that weekend. It’s a great time to get away from the busy routine, disconnect from cell phones and social media, and bond together through serving and brief devotionals/team building from Pine Cove staff. Oh, it’s also totally free!
Local Opportunities – Vacation Bible School, Church Work Day, Fall Festival, Service Week…there are several local opportunities at Trinity and around our community to serve as the body of Christ. We engage in annual or different opportunities often.
Summer Missions – Each summer, the JV and Varsity groups have their own mission trips that are local, domestic, or even international! The summer mission trips are a great, natural output of healthy community that is built up and encouraged throughout the school year. Students who wish to apply for a mission trip will be students with consistent attendance and involvement in youth ministry events during the school year, who demonstrate love and kindness toward others, and feel comfortable sharing Christ with others. There is an application and interview process with each student and his/her parents, and mandatory meetings after students are registered. This is a great, intentional process and experience to prepare students to share (and be) Christ’s love with others.
We are a group of imperfect adult volunteers and students who are covered and totally dependent on God’s grace. We make up games and dances, sing Happy Birthday incredibly off-key, and try not to take ourselves too seriously. If you are a 7th – 12th grader, or an adult who is curious about helping in any capacity, come visit us! I look forward to seeing you.
Expectantly,
Jeff Harding
