Kari Jane Smith - Director of Children's Ministry

Kari Jane Smith joined the staff as the Director of Children's Ministry in August 2001. She is a native Texan, but most of her childhood was spent in Roswell, New Mexico. The First Baptist Church in Roswell was were Kari Jane heard the good news of Jesus Christ and was baptized at about twelve years of age. It was after her junior year of college at Texas Tech that she and Richard Smith were married and moved to Sherman, Texas. Kari Jane completed her degree in Elementary Education at the University of North Texas in 1981. Texas was their birth place for their two children, but an adventure lasting ten years made Minnesota a childhood home for Rachel and David Smith. During those years in Minnesota, Kari Jane served as Sunday School teacher, Bible study leader, choir member and worship leader at a couple of different churches in addition to shoveling tons of snow. She was the head teacher at a Christian Pre-school and worked with children and parents at two major hospitals in Minneapolis. The Smith's came back to Texas in 1997 and presently reside in Garland.

When it comes to spring cleaning … I do it
Right now I am reading … Too Small to Ignore by Dr. Wess Stafford of Compassion International
My favorite book beside the Bible is…hmmm..better stick with that one!
If given the choice, the one thing I would certainly do before summer would be …have the summer 2008 and 2008-09 year CM teaching positions filled, trained and ready to go!

When I think of the “greatest,” the first thing that comes to my mind is…because...My parents….they love!

One thing in life that is working for me is… my Guest Bathroom shower

What is the most memorable quote you have heard or read recently?

"The church is not the family and the family is not the church."

If I were in the unfortunate situation, my last meal would be…given away because I would not need food!

If I were given all the needed talents and abilities, I would be the lead singer of  2nd Chapter of Acts…but not the lead.  That will always and forever belong to Annie.  I would simply sing with her!

The most recent/or most frequently played music on my ipod was…
Ramsie Schick  singing her songs: Sleeve, Unashamed, All Evil, Testify, My Love, Personally There.

The one box set that I would take with me on a desert island to watch would be ... is there electricity?  I would take books
