Ministry Will We Do?
Club de Chicas (Girls Club)
The smiles of the girls who come to club speak volumes of how much they enjoy participating in Club de Chi- cas. Mision TEC hosts two of these clubs each week; one for girls ages 8-11 and another for ages 12-16. Each group focuses on different activities, themes and a Bible lesson that encourages and challenges the girls to live a life of integrity. Mision TEC seeks to be a place that these girls can come and know that there is help, counsel and friendship as they pass through some of the more trying times in life.
Liga de Varones (Boys Club)
Not unlike the Girls Club, Liga de Varones is split into two groups with boys ages 7-11 and 12-15. Each week the groups meet to play sports, swim, participate in boy scout-like training and study the Word of God. The men of Mision TEC who lead the groups seek to build these boys up to be men who seek after the heart of God. They try to provide stable role models in a community that has few men to look up to.
We'll also have the opportunity to help with ongoing construction projects on the TEC property.
WHO WE WILL SERVE WITH In 1974 Mision TEC was founded and created by John and Janette Hocking. Mision TEC is a ministry that includes clubs, camps and other activities to reach out to the children of San Jose. These activities are geared towards building up the children, giving them skills which they can use throughout their lives, and above all a chance to know Jesus.
Along with working with the children in San Jose, Mision TEC also provides other services to the local communities of Pucallpa. These services take the form of workshops, camps, sporting events and use of Mision TEC’s facilities. It is the desire of Mision TEC to provide and participate in activities that focus on its vision: Forming Lives for Eternity through Biblical Teaching and Life Training. This includes: presenting the gospel of Jesus Christ so that each person has the opportunity to accept, understand and receive the perfect salvation that God offers through His Son, instructing and expanding knowledge and physical abili- ties which will help better ones lifestyle, and to develop in believers, through Biblical discipleship and practical ministry, a character that pleases the Lord.
Approximately 3000 people live in San Jose. Unemployment runs high and those that do have jobs work for only dollars a day (average pay is $3.50 a day). Like other small towns, many generations of one family live within San Jose. A large percentage of the children are raised within a single parent house- hold or by their grandparents. Most parents are unmarried and without this commitment, it is not uncommon for one of the spouses to leave. With these ever changing families comes a lack of stability and children are faced with feelings of abandonment and resentment. Another repercussion of these broken families is the increased number of cases of verbal, physical and sexual abuse. Most children receive a basic elementary education, but some leave school during the course of their high school studies to find a job, help at home or due to teen pregnancy.
As part of its mission, Mision TEC is seeking to break the cycle of brokenness within the families of San José through teaching, training, sharing the truth of the Bible and discipling the children and young people. The steps to healing these wounds within a person is a slow process. But healing needs to happen in order for change to occur and Mision TEC desires to be a part of this process.
