Serving in our SPHERE of Influence

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Cor. 5:20-21

When the apostle writes this explanation for the compelling motive and power for his ministry, he is speaking just for himself as an apostle and his traveling disciples. Just prior Paul makes clear:

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Cor. 5:17

“If anyone is in Christ,” means everyone alive in Christ. Everyone with the new life of Christ, shares it. They can’t hold it back. That is the way new life works. It grows. Multiplies. Crosses boundaries. Brings life to others.

Our discipleship strategy captures this theme with “Serve in your SPHERE of influence.” Every growing disciple is planted in a place with relationships where the new creation life of Christ is growing with impact on others. It is joy to know this. See it. And give thanks to God for the ways Christ’s life is at work through TFC in the various spheres of influence represented by the ambassadors going out from our body. We have 3 upcoming opportunities to serve in our spheres of influence, and also a chance to serve our church body at Work Day next Saturday:

Work Day – Oct. 8
Voter Registration – Oct. 2
WLTI Trip Prep – Ongoing

Grace and Peace,

Keith
